Yakushi-ji (薬師寺) is a Buddhist temple that was once one of the powerful Seven Great Temples in the city of Nara, Japan. The temple is associated with the Hossō school.

This temple was founded by Emperor Temmu in 680 as an offering for the recovery from illness of his consort, who eventually succeeded him as Empress Jitō.

A golden statue of Bhaisajyaguru (J. Yakushi Nyorai; Medicine Buddha) is enshrined within the temple.[1]

Yakushi-ji is part of Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara, a World Heritage Site.
