Shechen Monastery, Boudhanath, Nepal

Shechen Monastery (Tib. ཞེ་ཆེན་, Wyl. zhe chen) — one of the Six "Mother" Nyingma Monasteries of Tibet, was founded in either 1690 and 1734, according to differing accounts.[1] The original monastery was located north of Dzogchen monastery in the Derge region of Kham.

In the 1980s, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche re-established the monastery in Boudhanath, Kathmandu, Nepal, naming the new monastery Shechen Tennyi Dargyeling Monastery.

Notes

  1. ↑ In one account, it was founded in 1695 by Shechen Rabjam Tenpé Gyaltsen who was sent to Kham with this purpose by the Fifth Dalai Lama. Other sources say it was established by Gyurme Kunzang Namgyal, the second Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche, in 1734.
