Linji Temple (C. Línjì Sì 臨濟寺). A Buddhist temple located in Zhengding, Hebei, China.[1] It was formerly known as Linjiyuan (臨濟院).[1]

The temple takes its name from its position alongside (lín 臨) the river Hutuo (滹沱).[1]

The temple was founded in 540, but gained recognition after becoming home to Linji Yixuan (d. 866-7).[1]

Linji Temple became the cradle of the Linji zong, branch of Chan, named after Linji Yixuan. The Japanese Rinzai Zen school is a branch of the Linji lineage.

The oldest structure on the temple site is the Chengling Stupa, which still preserves the architectural style of the Liao and Jin dynasties (916–1234).[2][3]
