Hongzhi Zhengjue (J. Wanshi Shōgaku; K. Koengji Chŏnggak 宏智正覺) (1091–1157). A Chan master in the Caodong zong. He was best known within the Chan tradition for teaching a style of meditation called “silent illumination” (mozhao chan).[1] He also maintained a close relationship with the Linji zong master Dahui Zonggoa, who was highly critical of the "silent illumination" practice.[1]
