dhyānamudrā (T. mnyam bzhag gi phyag rgya; C. dingyin; J. jōin; K. chŏngin 定印). Translated as “mudra of meditation”. Also sometimes written as dhyānimudrā.[1]

In this mudra, both hands are placed on the lap, right hand on left with fingers fully stretched and the palms facing upwards.[2]

This gesture may also be made with the left hand only, while the right hand is positioned in another mudrā.[1]

This mudra is a characteristic gesture of Buddha Shakyamuni and Buddha Amitabha; they are often depicted supporting an alms bowl whilst displaying this mudra.[2]

This mudra is also characteristic of the Medicine Buddha, who often supports a medicine bowl in his hands.
